Latest in Beauty Review by Gemma – April 2020

This is now the fifth time I have been lucky enough to review this for Boxession and hopefully not the last either!

If you are not familiar with Latest In Beauty, they are a box for those who like to know what they are getting every month, as you get to choose your items. They also have limited edition collections with different brands and collections of their best sellers too!

The box came via royal mail, wrapped in an outer postage bag to protect the box inside.

This month’s theme is ‘The Oh So Natural Edit’, which is perfect for me!

If you missed my unboxing of this box, you can catch it here on our YouTube channel (and subscribe if you haven’t already!):

Onto the contents then! I chose 6 items for this box (I will discuss the different options and prices shortly) and tried to choose all cruelty free items too. There was also a discount code for a brand called Secret Spa,. Latest in Beauty often offer these little discount codes for certain brands in their boxes.

The first item was actually 2, as they came as a pair (cheeky!). This was also their ‘Hall of Fame’ brand for the month of April- Molton Brown. The items were the Heavenly Gingerlily Bath and shower gel 100ml (RRP approx. £7.50 based on 300ml price) and body lotion 100ml (RRP approx. £8.50 based on 300ml price). This is a classic british brand with a long heritage of providing beautiful smelling products and this is absolutely no different, it is gorgeous! It contains Ginger, Tuberose, Cedarwood and Lily Flower to capture the sense of an exotic wanderlust. It is a daily escape with warm and fragrant notes that evoke a perfumed breeze to leave the skin feeling cleansed and exotically scented. It is paraben free, gluten free, cruelty free and vegan! I travelled to Australia and Hawaii a few years ago and honestly, this smells just like I had been transported back there!

The second item was from a very popular brand over on the Boxession group- and an item that I am a huge fan of! It was the Oh K! Purifying Pink Clay Sheet Mask (RRP £3.30). This is fuss free and formulated with a trio of natural clays: Kaolin, Bentonite and Illite as well as Rosehip Oil to purify, reduce the appearance of pores and deliver a deep cleanse to the skin. This is also gluten free, cruelty free and vegan! I am a huge fan of sheet masks, particularly Korean ones and aside from the packaging being adorable, this also made my skin feel squeaky clean!

The next item is from a brand I am a huge fan of- ask any of my fellow admin about my addiction to this brand and they will verify my story ha ha! It is Dr Botanicals Hemp Infused Natural Nutrition Moisturiser (RRP £15.99). I had this in another subscription box a few months ago and I loved it- I was gutted when I ran out so you can imagine my delight when I saw this as one of the choices. It was the first thing in my basket! This is a go to for protecting, nourishing and hydrating the skin. It is a daily moisturiser that has been formulated with hemp seed oil to deliver the benefits of all 21 amino acids to the skin. I find this to be a really lightweight moisturiser, perfect for the daytime. It doesn’t leave a sticky or greasy residue on the skin and it has a really light fragrance that isn’t overpowering. Don’t be put off by the green colour either- this product is 98% natural so there are no colourings in there! It is also cruelty free and vegan too.

The fourth item is something I feel most of us would benefit from right now in these trying times! Patchology Mood Patch Chill Mode Eye Gels 1 pair (RRP £3.00 based on the price for a pack of 5). These are little gel patches that you put on your under eyes and are said to be the superfood you didn’t know your eyes needed! You place them on your undereyes for 10 minutes and relax in bliss whilst the gels harness the power of soothing cannabis seed oil to speed up cell turnover to give you more radiant skin. I am yet to try these, but I have a feeling they will come in handy very soon! All my research leads me to believe this is cruelty free, hence the inclusion in my box.

The fifth item is from a brand I have tried once before and loved, however it was a body care item that I tried previously and this one is a haircare one. It is Fushi Really Good Hair Oil 10ml (RRP £1.80 based on price for 100ml bottle). This combines the seasons harvest of nuts, seeds and herbs to make an effective and nutritive blend of 5 nourishing and rejuvenating oils that are rich in antioxidants to promote healthy hair and scalp. I love to take care of my hair- there is a lot of it, as you will see if you have watched my live or interacted with me on the group! It is important that I keep it in good condition, especially as I am not able to go for a trim right now! This smells absolutely beautiful and absorbs really well into the ends of my hair. I am a little wary of oils as they can leave my hair feeling greasy and weighed down but this doesn’t do that! The only niggle I have is that there is no applicator, like a roller ball or a dropper, so it can be hard not to pour out too much but that is only a minor complaint really! The product is natural and cruelty free too.

The sixth item is another item I have used before- and had just run out of literally the week before the box arrived! Hask Smoothing Deep Conditioner Sachet (RRP £2.49). This is the Keratin Protein range and is ultra fortifying and leaves the hair smooth, shiny and frizz free (very important for me!). It repairs damage, reduces breakage, cuts down on drying time and reduces static too! It is perfect for control unruly hair (cough cough) and hair that is damaged. I honestly have tried a lot of hair products in my time and this works so well on my hair- I use it as a mask after shampooing and conditioning and apply it to the ends of my hair for 10 minutes before rinsing. It leaves my hair feeling so soft, bouncy and healthy.  I love it and will definitely be trying more items in their range! It is also Cruelty free.

So I managed to get 7 items this time, as the Molton Brown pair were classed as 1, with a total retail price of approximately £42.58!

The prices:

So with this box, you have 3 different options:

  • Beauty Novice- 3 items £9 per month or £16 for a one off box.
  • Beauty Enthusiast- 6 items £15 per month or £22 for a one off box.
  • Beauty Guru- 9 items £18 per month or £25 for a one off box.

All boxes come with free postage and packaging. It is also a really flexible subscription, as you can change which price option you have each month, so if you wanted to have the 3 item box one month and the 9 item box the next, you can chop and change to suit you!

My Verdict

This was only my fifth Latest in Beauty box (I know!), but I love the concept- you know exactly what you are getting and will never be disappointed with it. There is a new item added every day at midnight so there is always loads to choose from and I had trouble only choosing 6! Once things go out of stock, they are gone, so you need to be fast! I also have to say how quickly it arrived after I had ordered too- a matter of days! There are definitely savings to be had here, as a couple of the items I chose were worth more than the box costs! I also love that there is also a mix of items, so there are make up, skincare, body care, haircare, tools and also things like vitamin drinks and feminine hygiene too! Something for everyone with this one!
