Toppbox Review By Darren – March 2019

I think Nazia’s obsession with subscription boxes has started to rub off on me over the past year, as every month I look forward to seeing what I will receive in the latest Toppbox and what new products I will get to test out. It has given me the opportunity to try out a variety of new products that I might not otherwise think to try and I have found a few products that I have continued to use! This month was no exception and I’d like to say a big thank you to Alham for sending this box to review.

What I thought:

The items are packaged in a small black recyclable box that has the Toppbox logo printed on the top and the social media handles along the sides. Inside I found…

Seacret Mineral Rich Black Mud Face Soap – Clean, restore and balance your skin with this mineral rich face soap. The black mud harvested from the banks of the Dead Sea is in fact alluvial silt washed down from the surrounding mountains and deposited on the shores of this inland salt sea. Layer upon layer of fine silt deposits have evolved over thousands of years to form a rick Dead Sea mud containing particularly high levels of magnesium, calcium, potassium, strontium, boron and iron. The resulting mineral-rich Dead Sea mud is a natural raw material that can be used on the skin to effectively cleanse impurities and dissolve oils.

I found this mud face soap to be a great cleanser, it left my face feeling fresh and clean without drying out my skin. I can see that I will be able to use this for a while with it being a bar of soap a little bit goes a long way, I have been using it the past week and it hardly looks like it has been used. My skin feels great and I think I will continue to use this product for a long time.

Pure Purpose Hemp Face Masque – A balancing skin mask made with pomegranate and Aloe Vera extracts, which deeply hydrates the skin on the face and neck area whilst removing toxins irritants as well as airborne pollutants and excess oil from the skin.

As Nazia said in the live I am not one to shy away from a face mask, so when she decides to have a pamper day, I will sometimes join her and put on a facemask too. I found this to have a fresh smell and after applying and leaving for 10 minutes before rinsing off it left my skin feeling soft and clean. Unlike some other masks I have used in the past this one does not dry out my skin and I can recommend it for sensitive skin. Another brand I will need to keep an eye out for.

Urban Jack Shower Oil – This shower oil is bursting with beneficial ingredients to help balance your skins unique microbiome and boot its defence against urban pollution. Containing Dead Sea Salt to re-mineralise, baobab oil to hydrate and argan oil to condition tired and stressed skin. Fragranced with Urban Jack’s signature blend of natural essential oils.

I have used some shower oils in the past as I find they can often be kinder to my sensitive skin; this product was a great example of a shower oil. It applied easily and worked up into a lather, although not as much as a traditional soap, it still left me feeling clean and refreshed without drying out my skin. I really liked the smell of this product and I like the Urban Jack range already from having received some of their other products in previous Toppbox’s. Another product I will keep an eye out for to buy in the shops.

Jack Perfume Covent Garden – Jack Covent Garden is the second unisex fragrance by British actor Richard E Grant. Its exuberant combination conjures up the essence of the historic fresh fruit and vegetable market celebrated in My Fair Lady, and the traditional home of theatre in London. Top notes: orange, lime, ginger. Heart notes: pink peppercorns, rose, pimento. Base notes: carrot, orris, musk.

I found this to be a pleasant fragrance but it is just not something I would normally use. The sample size was large enough to give me a number of opportunities to wear it over the last week and it has an interesting citrus smell. It is not something I would go out and buy but that is just personal preference, I found the smell lasted well after application so a little goes a long way.

The Coffee Scrub Co. Peppermint Lip Scrub – With the cold, dry winter season comes chapped lips. Avoid dry and flaky lips by using a gentle lip scrub to moisturise and slough off dead skin. Containing 100% natural vegan ingredients, this lip scrub works seamlessly to protect the lips from external sources. Formulated with peppermint essential oils, this scrub will naturally eliminate bacteria, making it the perfect lip maintenance tool.

Over the winter I do tend to get dry lips especially now that I am back on the motorbike to get into work. I decided to use the lip scrub a couple of times over the past week and the fresh peppermint smell is amazing every time I open the tin. The scrub left my lips feeling less dry after a few days and always gives a nice tingly sensation as you scrub your lips with it. Again, another product I think I would use again.

House99 Greater Look Face Moisturiser
Inspired by David Beckham’s hectic lifestyle, this lightweight moisturiser will enhance your skin’s natural radiant look by providing your skin with the much-needed hydration without the unwanted shine. Developed with men’s skin in mind, the multi-effect formulation will also protect your skin from pollutants so that you can look good all day long.

As I have mentioned in my last review, I suffer with dry skin so a face moisturiser is always welcome in my pocket. This one has a mild scent which is not overpowering but pleasant to smell as I applied it to my face. The moisturiser has a gel like quality to it and easily rubbed into my skin leaving my face feeling hydrated. The effects lasted for a number of hours which is always handy as it means having to apply it less throughout the day.

This month’s box is great value for money with the total value of the products in the box being worth three times as much as you are paying for the subscription box itself! I always look forward to receiving my Toppbox and seeing what I have been sent and having the opportunity to try out all the new products. This month was no exception and I enjoyed using all the products and found them all to be really excellent quality and I like that the boxes are tailored and suitable for my skin.
