So, this is not my usual review, so it is very exciting! I am testing and reviewing some handmade items, made by one of our members, Charlotte Parris.
Charlotte has been a BoXession member for as long as I can remember now, and the back story behind her starting to make her own soaps really made me giggle! I sent her a scrub/soap bar in one of my parcels. I received it in a subscription box. Charlotte went on to see if she could re buy the product and realised it was £20! Yes that is steep! So she thought she would have a go at making her own. She has been testing and trialling so many fragrances and has perfected quite a few now that she has been gifting to friends, and her Husband’s clients. She will be selling them, and is currently working on a Website and Facebook Page. But for now these are exclusively mine to test and keep, yay!
I was sent such a lovely big full box of these, that I decided it would be rude not to do an unboxing on our group, even if just to make you all a little envious of my goodies, sorry.
If you missed my live unboxing, you can watch it back on our YouTube Channel, they need to invent smell-o-vision as these smelt amazing…
So what is inside the box?
- Almond & Silk Soap
- Cappuccino Soap
- Parma Violet Soap
- Peppermint & Poppyseed Soap
- Rhubarb & Custard Soap
- Coffee Scrub Bar
- Shampoo Bar
There are others available: Rose & Oatmeal, Unscented, and Orange & Cinnamon. Charlotte was kind enough to ask me first which fragrances I prefer.
So in order to try all of these out without wasting a full bar, I cut off a corner of each soap. I have to mention the attention to detail of each, the colour coordinated labels, and the printing of ‘Charlotte Parris’ on the bars. Here are my thoughts on each…
Almond & Silk Soap
This actually has real silk in it! I know, how good is that? It does really smell like marzipan. It is so moisturising I even used this one on my face. This is so unusual, I have never seen or heard of a soap like this before I was sent it. I would be really happy with this as a gift too, it is very luxurious.
Coffee is one of my favourite things in the world, so when Charlotte told me that there was a Cappuccino bar this was my first choice over any of them. I was not disappointed, I am loving that my hands smelt of coffee after using this. I kept sniffing them. The addition of the coffee beans embedded into the soap make this a stunning looking soap.
Parma Violet Soap
Firstly, it is purple! I love purple, it is my favourite colour. Future bars in this fragrance will be white though. The fragrance of this once I would say is the strongest from them all. I could smell this the most when opening the box lid. I love Parma Violet sweets so again this is one bar I would definitely re purchase.
Peppermint & Poppyseed Soap
An exfoliating bar, that is a natural exfoliant! These are extremely popular given the negativity surrounding microbeads, which thankfully are being banned. Consider this as a great alternative. I used this on my body and the peppermint really packs a punch. Wow, you can smell this for ages afterwards. I love how this looks in my bathroom too.
Coffee Scrub Bar
This is not the finished product, but Charlotte asked me to try it out for my thoughts. I LOVE the smell of it to start, I used it as an exfoliating bar which is its intended purpose. I think if the coffee grind was a little less coarse it would be perfect. It actually worked really well on the heels of my feet, after I realised it was a little rough I thought oh, that’s ideal for that.
I do love a shampoo bar, you all know it and I absolutely have a pile of them stashed away in my Bathroom! This lathered up really well, my head was a huge mass of bubbles. For me personally it needs a little bit more moisturiser added into it. I had to use more conditioner than I would usually, but as it is an unperfected sample I am sure that Charlotte will appreciate the feedback.
Rhubarb & Custard Soap
Saving the best until last. This is my favourite, very close to the Almond & Silk. I adore old fashioned sweets and this smells good enough to eat. I was extremely tempted to lick either the soap or my hands, or both. I would absolutely love to see more sweetie fragrances.
What I love the most about What Charlotte is doing with these soaps isn’t the handmade element, it is the fact she is trying to be different to just the ordinary scents you can buy. I have spoken to her about it, and she has plans to bring out more new ones. I am excited to see what the future holds for her, and cannot wait to see these up for public sale.
I will of course update this review with the links to her page and website when they are ready, so you can all buy these!
Thank you again to Charlotte, and all the very best of luck with your new business venture.
