Life Box Review by Nazia – June 2018

Thank you again to the wonderful Howard for sending me this amazing box to review. This is the third time I’m reviewing for LifeBox and I look forward to receiving this box each month. What I thought

Ape Snacks Crispy Coconut Curls – Lightly Salted

A brand that I have tried many times before, these are a delicious combination of sweet and salty and have a delightful crunch to them. The sweet coconut and sea salt are perfectly balanced to make these little treats very moreish. Very tasty and the bags are just the right size for snacking or on the go.

Cheeky P’S Roasted Chickpeas – Curry Flavour

If you are looking for a healthy snack that you can graze on, then these dry roasted chickpeas will do the trick. Each pack lasts long enough to keep you satiated and with two different flavours available to choose from there’s enough to keep them interesting. Crunchy little mouthfuls of flavour which are light and filling. Really good for keeping the hunger pangs at bay and a great replacement for those with nut allergies.

Mindfuel Posh Teff Porridge –  Cacao & Cayenne Pepper

I’m not a huge fan of porridge as I don’t really enjoy the texture but for this review I gave it a go. The flavour is unusual and not one I would choose to put together and I’m afraid that it didn’t change the way I feel about porridge. For those of you who enjoy porridge the individual sachet is so convenient that you only have to add hot water. You need to stir it for a while to ensure no lumps and is great if you are on the move a lot but I’m sorry to say this just wasn’t for me.

Protein Ball Co Protein Balls – Raspberry Brownie

I couldn’t wait to try these, and they were pretty much devoured right after my live unboxing hehe! A brand that I have seen and heard of but not had the opportunity to try yet so was happy to see these featured in this month’s box. These little balls are great tasting, very filling and they’re also low in calories. The chewiness of the sweet dates is complimented with the raspberry flavour that comes through after. I love that they are an all-natural product and the flavour really conveys this. Great for refuelling after a busy day or a tough workout. I really liked these a lot and I will make it my missions to try all the available flavours!

Rude Health Cornitas – Black Bean

Those who know me will know that when it comes to snacks that crisps are my ultimate weakness. Rude health cornitas are a wonderful and healthy alternative to my unhealthy savoury snack obsession! Dipped in a pot of yummy hummus these crunchy delicious triangle shaped snacks go perfectly together.

Vegan| Gluten Free | No Artificial anything

BetterYou Magnesium Body Butter

A deep rich, intensely moisturising body butter containing the perfect balance of skin kind ingredients. This left my skin feeling soft with the added benefit of magnesium which is said to help with restless legs – not something I have issues with but good to know for those who do. The cream is easily applied, is light and isn’t at all greasy like some products can be.

Parabens Free | Suitable for pregnancy

Big Boss Palm Rose & Vanilla Soda

I found this way too sweet, on opening it even smelled sweet – it reminds me of the milk bottle sweets I used to eat as a child. The rose, vanilla and coconut are all very over powering and I don’t think the flavours work together unfortunately.

Biona Organic Jackfruit

One of the products I’ve most looked forward to trying and something that has been on my list of food to try for a while now and finally I have the chance to. The LifeBox booklet contained two helpful recipes for the jackfruit which was a jackfruit chilli or a sandwich, I went with the latter as that sounded more my type of meal. Raw jackfruit looks very similar to an artichoke but when cooked taste completely different. I prepared the jackfruit as per the recipe, it says that once cooked through to pull apart using two forks which gives it a very pulled pork look to it. Very delicious and very filling and has that meaty type texture to it that makes it very enjoyable. It is something that I could consider eating more often and not at all expensive to purchase.

Skinny & Co. Oil Pulling Sachet

This product really caught my attention and piqued my interest as it is something I’d never heard of I did some research to find out more.

What I found – Oil pulling is an age-old remedy rooted in Ayurvedic medicine that uses natural substances to clean and detoxify teeth and gums. It has the added effect of whitening teeth naturally and evidence even shows that it may be beneficial for gum health and that certain oils may help fight harmful bacteria in the mouth. How does it work? The basic idea is that oil is swished in the mouth for a short time each day and that this action helps improve oral health.  Oil pulling is the act of swishing oil (usually Sesame, Sunflower or Coconut) in the mouth for up to 20 minutes to improve oral health.

So, for 20 minutes I swished and swilled the coconut oil around my mouth and after a while I did experience some jaw ache as 20 minutes is quite a long time! I was surprised at how pleasant raw coconut oil tastes, kind of creamy and clean. I was wowed by the fact that my teeth did seem slightly more whiter and my mouth fresher after use! Something I think I will try to do more often, hopefully I’ll see some good results.

Yogi immune Support Tea

I didn’t like this at first but when I got used to the taste I didn’t mind it as much. It has a mild ginger taste, that I think would be nice and soothing if suffering from a sore throat or a cold. Whether it boosted my immune system or not I don’t know, I’d have to try it when I’m feeling run down.

Vai Cacao Nibs

Cacao nibs are the raw material for making fine chocolate, but they are also an ingredient rich in nutrients and antioxidants necessary for our health. I usually like to add cacao nibs to my overnight oats or to my granola to add that extra bite, but they also work great in smoothies (they break down in the blender to very small pieces to give a chocolatey flavour). Only a small handful are needed as they are very strong. All the tastiness – whilst still being natural and healthy, the cocoa nibs are of excellent quality and I would definitely recommend this as a healthier alternative to chocolate chips. The LifeBox booklet also features a tahini truffle recipe which has cacao nibs as an ingredient – another great use for this versatile product.

Kaakao Organic Bar – Original

This plant-powered ‘chocolate’ which is sweetened with dates and made using only FOUR ingredients (cocoa, cocoa butter, dates and coconut milk) is the best non-chocolate bar I’ve ever tasted! Really creamy and indulgent without the guilt also great for diabetics.

Vegan| Gluten Free| No Added Sugar| All Natural| Soy Free| Dairy Free| No Preservative or Flavourings| Organic

Overall Opinion

What can I say, this box never disappoints! I usually eat pretty well but my snacking can get a little out of control. This box curbs those hunger cravings with delicious healthier alternatives. The box is crammed with a variety of goodies and there is something for everyone’s taste, there are never any repeat products, so you can always expect something new every month. Many of the products only have a few ingredients and it is great knowing that none of these contain added nasties. This box makes a great gift to those who are vegan, have certain allergies or for those looking for healthier snack options. I love that each month I’m introduced to new and exciting brands and products and I’ve definitely found some this month that I want to continue purchasing.
