Dear Bump Review by Nazia & Debi for BoXession – April 2018

I’d like to say a really big thank you to Emma for sending this box to my beautiful friend Debi, who is currently 35 weeks pregnant and extremely excited to receive and review this box!

A Little About the Box

The idea behind Dearbump was conceived in 2017, by two mums whilst discussing their pregnancies, realised that whilst there are hundreds of products for babies, there was not much out there for mums. Finding information and products for pregnancy is hard and they didn’t know where to look to find products and there was very little choice in supermarkets. Pregnancy is both an exciting and worrying time, you want to give your baby the best start in life and ensure you do everything right, but it can be hard finding products which are safe for pregnancy.

So, the idea was born –  a monthly subscription box which can be delivered to mums to be which contains healthy and relevant products throughout their pregnancy journey. A subscription can be started at any stage during pregnancy and continue all the way until the baby is born. The products are carefully selected so that they are safe for pregnancy and most of the products are organic, vegan and contain essential oils rather than synthetics. They wanted to put together a package which allows parents to take a little time out each month to make memories of their pregnancy and spend quality time bonding with their bumps. It’s something mums will remember when looking back on their pregnancies.

If you missed our live unboxing you can catch up with it here:

Knit ‘n’ Mix

This knit ‘n’ mix kit contains everything you need to knit one pair of baby mittens using the finest natural merino baby wool.

What Debi Thought: The merino wool is so soft and delicate to touch in gender-neutral colour, so suitable for either a girl or a boy – I haven’t started the project yet but I have looked at the instructions and it’s very easy to follow. It’s a small project so it wouldn’t take long to complete and you’ll have the cutest mittens as a result which is for ages 0-6 months. I can’t wait to get started!

Joe & Seph’s Coconut and Chia Popcorn

Smooth caramel blended with delicately desiccated coconut and crunchy chia seeds, it’s a light, sweet and crunchy popcorn, perfect for those long summer days.

What Debi Thought: it’s satisfyingly crunchy and delicious. The flavour is coconut and chia which is an unusual combination – the coconut is not overpowering and the chia has a slight flavour which works well together. My only wish is the portion was larger as I ate the whole thing in pretty much one bite – that being said I am eating for two!

Coco Baroque Chocolate – Milk Hot Chocolate Bloc

House Milk chocolate hot choc bloc, made with 33.6% Belgian milk chocolate. Just stir into a mug of hot milk and enjoy.

What Debi Thought: This is simply delicious! That being said I love all chocolate. The packaging is very cute and it tastes great. It’s not too thick or sweet, a great pick me up for those tired days.

Made by Coopers Apothecary Vanilla Rose Bath Salts

A nourishing bath salt blend with vanilla and ylang ylang essential oils to nourish the skin and help you relax and unwind.

What Debi Thought: I’ve not had a chance to use this but upon opening the packet, you have a faint aroma of roses and a slight sweet smell which could be either the vanilla or coconut. It’s an instantly relaxing scent. There is a lot of key ingredients all with a range of benefits from nourishing your skin to relaxing the mind and body. Can’t wait to unwind with this.

Count the Kicks Wristband

Kicks Count Wristbands are a real help with keeping track of movement episodes felt each day and make it easier to recognise if what you’ve felt is a change from normal. They can help to reduce worry and come in a range of different colours

What Debi Thought: To be honest, I’ve not needed to use this as I am already familiar with my baby’s movements and timings. Although it’s encouraging for mothers who have only just started to feel the kicks or mothers that have yet to establish a pattern in their baby’s movements.

Bloom and Blossom Revitalising Foot and Leg spray

Helps to alleviate water retention and refresh tired and heavy legs, swollen ankles and feet.

What Debi Thought: This is great for pregnancy feet situations, even normal feet! Its cooling and refreshing when you spray it on and it has a natural citrus scent. It is the perfect size to keep in your handbag. I’m not sure if it counteracts any swelling, but only time will tell.

Coco Baroque Chocolate – Milk Chocolate Rocky Road

Digestive biscuits, marshmallows and milk chocolate in bite sized chunks.

What Debi Thought: Another chocolate wrapped up in cute packaging. Nice bite sized pieces that tastes as good as it looks, it’s not too sweet and is extremely moreish. There is a good amount given, which is also a bonus. It’s great for when I am feeling peckish – which at the moment is like all the time!

Love Boo Mummy Perineum Massage Oil

Help prevent stitches and tearing with our midwife-recommended Perineum Oil.

What Debi Thought: This is a fragrance free 100% natural oil, which is quite light and blends nicely into the skin. It certainly feels nice and I hope this will help during labour. This oil has a range of other uses including baby massages and to soften scars too.

Odylique Organic Nipple Balm

Moisturising organic coconut and extra virgin olive oils plus shea butter and calendula to soothe and protect from cracking or soreness.

What Debi Thought: It’s a yellow balm which goes on thick but blends into the skin nicely and doesn’t feel sticky. It leaves the skin soft and moisturised. I’ve yet to breastfeed but I have a feeling this would work very well. An added bonus is that its organic, fragrance free and 100% natural; is suitable to use before, during and after breastfeeding.

The Little Book of Mumfulness

A non-expert mum takes you through the non-perfect guide to getting through motherhood without losing your mind from exhaustion.

What Debi Thought: I have only started reading this book but I am really enjoying it. It’s funny, down to earth and there are little exercises for mums to relieve stress and tension. It’s a good size to pop in your handbag for on the go reading.

Overall, this box is great value and the products are well thought out- you get a great range of products just for mum and few bits for baby too like the mittens and I’m really pleased with everything in this box

Is it worth it?

Now that you’re pregnant or know someone who is, you may have to switch up your beauty products to keep baby safe. You can end up reading labels left and right to make sure your products are safe to use on your pregnant body. The beauty of this box is that you don’t have to worry if the products are safe or suitable to use as they have all been specially tested for you – most of the products are natural, organic and vegan as reflected by the price. This box is so unique and I love how each box is personalised to corelate with each stage of pregnancy, be it at the start of your pregnancy journey or even if your journey is almost at an end, this is a box to bring you and your bump closer. These boxes contain healthy snacks, pregnancy tea, beauty products, personal care products, gifts and treats to pamper mums to be. So much thought and effort has gone into this box, they’ve thought of all the ways that mums to be can relax and pamper themselves and enjoy being pregnant at the same time.

I really believe this box would benefit mothers to be by easing them into motherhood with information and products that aren’t always readily available. The products are also chosen specifically for each month throughout pregnancy with advice and links to resources which some women might not otherwise have access to. The fact that it was designed and created by woman who have gone through this experience is also comforting as they know the exact needs and wants of a pregnant woman.

It also makes the perfect gift for expectant mothers, I have a few friends who are pregnant and I know they would love this box! If you’re expecting a new addition to the family or know someone who is, treat yourself or them to a bump box packed with goodies tailored to your stage of pregnancy. Designed to pamper mums to be!!
