Firstly I would like to say a huge thank you to Tony from Taste Cocktails for sending BoXession this box to review.
Wow, what a box it is, it certainly lifted my spirits.
If you missed me shaking not stirring, you can catch it here in my live unboxing…
This box was the bramble, the information and the back story to the cocktails and ingredients was great.
In the box I received:
- An information booklet
This reminded me of a menu in an upmarket cocktail bar. It gave me the back story on the alcohol and the cocktails inventor, as well as giving me 3 recipes to try.
- Cartron crème de mûre 60ml 18%abv
For drizzling on top of my cocktails.
- Teisseire sugar syrup 10ml
This helps give the cocktails a lemony sweet kick and reminded me of a lemon sherbet without the sour kick.
- Chambord Raspberry Liqueur 30ml 16.5% abv
This gave the cocktails a gorgeous berry twist.
And the stars of the show …
- 2 x minus 33 juniper distilled spirit 100ml 33% abv
I tasted this on its own and I can see why it’s achieved spot 19 on the top 50 global innovations. It was crisp, clear and not overwhelming so the citrus notes shone through, giving a well rounded enjoyable taste.
All of the cocktails in this box were invented by Dick Bradsell. He wanted to put a British spin on the classic Singapore sling, inspired by fresh blackberries he used to pick on the IOW. So Crushed ice and shaker at the ready I created 5 cocktails like a pro. Garnishing with IOW blackberries I had picked earlier in the year.
The Classic Bramble
The Bramble de Casita
And last but not least…
It may make you wobble but it won’t make you fall down!
This one was so good it was cheekily drunk before I could garnish or get a photo, considering they asked for another I’m guessing it was good.
All of the cocktails had a unique flavour and they went down a treat, next time I’m in cocktail bar I will happily order any of them. I’ve really loved reviewing this box I mean Cocktails delivered to your door!! What more could you want? It is well thought out and would make an amazing gift, and I only had to add minimal ingredients like lemon juice or grapefruit juice.
Who would love it?
Obviously you wouldn’t get this for someone who’s T total or for under 18’s.
But other than that the world is your olive. This box makes making cocktails like a pro a breeze and a great conversation piece. It would be fab for having a get together once a month and trying the new cocktails, or a brilliant conversation piece over dinner. With Christmas coming up it would make the perfect gift hint hint hahaha. You could even gift it to a friend or family member you don’t see as much any more, video call them and share a cocktail together.
Is it worth it?
Sorry for repeating myself but once again COCKTAILS DELIVERED TO YOUR DOOR! This is a brilliant way to explore cocktails with out the huge outlay. A 70 cl bottle of minus 33 retails for £35 quite a hefty price tag for just one ingredient you may not like. If you go to a cocktail bar you’re talking at least £12 a glass. Plus the convenience of them being so well put together before they arrive at your door.
Taste cocktails is a genius idea and I highly recommend it.
How do I get it I hear you scream?
