Pomora Box Review by Sam – November 2017

Firstly I would like to say a huge thank you to Alun from Pomora for sending Boxession this amazing box to review.

And for the exclusive 25% discount code Box25

This box is unlike any other we have reviewed so let me tell you a bit about it before we get into the unboxing.
You adopt an olive tree- How cool!
You get a choice of where you would like your tree to be From the two gold award growers :

  • Carmelo from Sicily
  • Antonio from Campania

You get an adoption pack including:

  • a certificate for your tree
  • And an information booklet about your tree

This is normally sent via email to save Mother Natures resources (you can request a paper copy) Making this perfect for gifting at the last minute.

Each quarter you get a batch of oil from your tree tailored to the season. Regular updates on the progress of your tree and you can even arrange to visit it! And we have a discount code: Box25 gives you 25% off!

If you missed my live tasting you can watch it here:

This quarter I received:

  • A certificate for my adoption

This detailed:

  • my growers name
  • The location of the tree
  • My tree number
  • And a photo of my tree
  • A Guide

This told me all about the company the growers, the oils, how to taste the oils and included some extra recipes.

  • 7 recipe cards tailored to the oils I received And a few promotional vouchers for wine and grow your own mushrooms

Then we had the stars of the show…

First out was:
Olio nuovo 250ml from my olive tree
The pungency of this hit the back of my throat on this one and made me cough a sign of a very good oil. Fresh Notes of pine came though when I smelt it, upon tasting I found the oil very fresh, green and woody with a slight bitterness to it.
Second out:
Al Aglio garlic flavoured 250ml from my olive tree
This one was least intense on pungency but the flavours surprised me when they hit my taste buds. Upon inhaling the oil there was a strong garlic smell, but when I tasted it the oil shone through as clean, vibrant, earthly fruits dancing in my mouth.
And last but not least:
Extra Vergine 250ml from my olive tree
This one tasted very nutty to me with hints of green leafs, this also had the most bitterness to it and a good kick to the back of my throat.
I taste tested all the oils live and with various foods starting with bread.
I selected the fruity garlic infused oil to cook a starter with and it paired perfectly with my dish of garlicky king prawns with olive oil. It was a real treat mopping up the dish with my crusty bread, the oil was lovely to cook with and brought the garlic and dried ancho chillies to life.

I have also cooked with the other 2 oils and each one brings a different flavour to my dishes.

What do I think?

This is a truly amazing and unique concept and something I can get behind.
The company ethics are amazing supporting:

  • Sustainability
  • Respect for nature
  • Traceability
  • Working with the growers
  • Fair trading
  • Supporting small growers
  • And of course delicious and nutritious food

They really are a company that care.
And the oils are amazing, I made some super yummy food with them and had fun testing the different flavour oils with my family and friends deciding what went best together.

Who would love it?

Who doesn’t want their own olive tree that produces oil they can use without any hassle of looking after it or preparing the oil?
Food lovers and cooks all around the world! People that care about ethics and sustainability. Minimalists and eco warriors.
I honestly think this would make an amazing gift for the young and old as well as the people who have it all (via an olive tree) and stump you every year on what to get them.
Or those you wish to extend an olive branch to (pun intended)
And those who are health conscious olive oil is the original super food and boasts to protect you against.

  • Heart disease
  • Cancer
  • Obesity
  • And Alzheimer’s

Is it worth it?

It’s a yes from me!
There are other adoption schemes out there but very few to non that give back as much as this one does!

  • Your own olive tree.
  • An adoption pack.
  • Regular updates.
  • A sense of ethnic pride knowing you are part of a community that cares.
  • 3 x 250ml high quality superfood oils that help your health and make your food super yummy.
  • 7 glossy recipe cards

I honestly struggle to put a price on this! all the time, love, care and attention that goes into this In my opinion it is priceless!
High quality olive oil directly from the growers with this amount of traceability is expensive ranging up to £120 a bottle!
And this oil is far superior to any you pick up in your local supermarket.

How do I get it?

  • You can adopt your own olive tree for £29 per quarter.

Or just £21.75 with code Box25
You can cancel this at anytime.
