What I received:
My box was delivered by Hermes in a cardboard box with lots of fragile tape around it as to make sure it is not damaged in transit. Inside the outer packing was the Wine lovers white box with their purple logo on the front sealing the box closed. Inside this were two bottles of wine, one white, one red, as well as three chocolate bars. There was an information leaflet from Wine lovers included explain a bit about the box and a detailed description of both wines. It also explains the composition of both wines and what to pair them with. I find this incredibly useful as it helps you to enjoy the most out of the wine.
What I thought of the box:
Ladera Verde Merlot – This is a smooth mellow red tasting of fresh ripened plums. After first trying this I was pleasantly surprised, I am not usually a fan of red wines however this Merlot was beautiful. It has completely changed my mind about red wines, it was soft and sweet, not too bitter and easy to drink. Its composition is 90% Merlot and 10% Tintorera. In the information sheet that is included in the box it tells you a bit about how this wine was made; part of the grapes are thermovinificated and part traditional fermented, this is what achieves the nice complexity and softness of the wine, this also helps to increase the fruity flavours. They suggest pairing this red wine with flavourful grilled meats like pork, turkey or chicken. You can also enjoy it with pastas and pizzas with tomato sauce. It’s smooth enough to enjoy with a salad toppled with cheese or cold cut meats.
Ladera Verde Sauvignon Blanc – This light bodied white wine goes beautifully with appestisers such as salads or seafood. It goes well with white meats, light sauces and vegetarian dishes. I savoured this beautiful white wine with cheese and crackers in the evening! It has a 100% Sauvignon blanc composition. The grapes are crushed and destemmed then pressed and decanted by flotation. It fermented at 16 degrees and after fermentation goes through a two month work with the fine lees to increase the mouthfeel. I would describe this wine as dry and it is best to drink with food, the complex making is what gives it the fine wine taste.
Divine Chocolate bars x 3 – Smooth dark with pink Himalayan salt, Smooth dark with almonds and raisins, Smooth dark with raspberries – All three of these bars are 90 grams and fairtrade. I am not a huge fan of dark chocolate so I decided to share these chocolates with my friends and family. I think these are all a great pairing with the two wines and went well together, especially with the Merlot. The rich dark chocolate mixed with each flavour makes this box feel even classier. My friends told me their favourite bar was the smooth dark chocolate with a dash of pink Himalayan salt.
This is a completely new subscription box that I believe has a lot of potential. It is a great opportunity to tour the vineyards of the world from the comfort of your home. Wine lovers offer amazing tasting wines that have been carefully curated, paired with an extra treat in each box. I am impressed with the extra information provided about the wines and their background as well as how to best enjoy them, it helps you to get the most out of your purchase. The only downside I would say is the shipping price which I feel is very expensive and could be reduced, apart from that I would happily purchase this box myself or as a gift.
I hope my review has given you all an insight into the Wine Lovers box and you enjoyed reading,
