What did I think?

For a book subscription I was expecting a much smaller box to arrive instead of the large box that turned up at my door! Upon ripping the brown paper that covered the box I found a neatly tied box with read yarn. When I finally got into the box the books are beautifully wrapped in different colourful wrapping paper that I did not want to open because of how lovely they all looked! For me this shows just how much the guys at Thoughtful Book Subscription care about their customers!

Sarah J. Maas – Throne of Glass

I was introduced to Sarah J. Maas books last year and she is fast becoming one of my favourite authors! Throne of Glass has been on my reading list for a while now but I hadn’t got around to reading it yet. Too many books – not enough time to read them all! So, imagine my surprise at unwrapping this book on my live unboxing! I can tell you it was one of sheer delight so obviously I just had to read this first!

What’s it about? Well the description on the back says: Meet Celaena Sardothien. Beautiful. Deadly. Destined for greatness. In the dark, filthy salt mines of Endovier, an eighteen-year-old girl is serving a life sentence. She is a trained assassin, the best of her kind, but she made a fatal mistake. She got caught.

Young Captain Westfall offers her a deal: her freedom in return for one huge sacrifice. Calaena must represent the prince in a to-the-death tournament – fighting the most gifted thieves and assassins in the land. Live or die, Calaena will be free. Win or lose, she is about to discover her true destiny. But will her assassins heart be melted?

What did I think of this book? Despite a few niggles about the main character overall, I like it and enjoyed reading the book and look forward to reading the rest of the series. The idea of a young bad ass female assassin is a very entertaining idea, throw in a deadly competition and a hint of a love triangle you have a great storyline. Celaena has the misfortune of being caught and being sent to the salt mines as punishment. However, the Prince strikes up a deal with Calaena, in exchange for her freedom she must compete in his father’s competition against other thieves and warriors as the King’s personal assassin. If she should be victorious, she will work for the King for four years and in doing so will earn her freedom. This seems like the perfect opportunity for Celaena because the closer she gets to the King, the greater her chances of killing him! Definitely a book for those who like their young adult fantasy!

Kristin Cashore – Graceling

I haven’t heard of this book nor read anything by this author but I’m really looking forward to reading this as it sounds just like the type of book I would read. The great thing about surprise book subscriptions like this is you are introduced new books and authors so may find some new favourites!

What is the book about? The description on the back says: In a world where people born with an exceptional skill, known as a Grace, are feared and exploited, Katsa carries the burden of a skill even she despises: the Grace of killing. Feared by the court and shunned by those her own age, the darkness of her Grace casts a heavy shadow over Katsa’s life. Yet she remains defiant: when the King of Lienid’s father is kidnapped she investigates, and stumbles across a mystery. Who would want to kidnap the old man, and why? And who was the extraordinary Graced man whose fighting abilities rivalled her own?

The only thing Katsa is sure of is that she no longer wants to kill. The intrigue around this kidnapping offers her a way out – but little does she realise, when she takes it, that something insidious and dark lurks behind the mystery. Something spreading from the shadowy figure of a one-eyed king.

Cassandra Clare – City of Bones

This is another book that’s been on my to read list for a while and I can’t wait to start reading this next! I’ve heard so many good things about this series so I’m very excited to see how it reads! It’s about vampires and werewolves so I’m sure I’m going to love it!

What’s it about? The description on the back of the book says: Clary Fray is seeing things: vampires in Brooklyn and werewolves in Manhattan. Irresistably drawn towards a group of sexy demon hunters, Clary encounters the dark side of New York City – and the dangers of forbidden love.

The Bookshelf Bookmark

These guys have thought of everything as this is another great addition to this package and exactly what I needed whilst reading my book. I don’t have many bookmarks as I end up losing or misplacing them, so I’m really pleased they’ve included one. I don’t like folding pages on books as it can damage them so a bookmark is a necessity for me!

A Jar of Hot Chocolate Powder

I am so happy they included this cute little reusable jar of hot chocolate! I’ve found with most book subscriptions they tend to include either tea or coffee which is great but it’s nice to see something different once in a while. Although it came with no instructions, hot chocolate is very simply to make. Add hot water or as I prefer hot milk to make a delicious creamy hot beverage and a ton of marshmallows to enjoy whilst being lost on an adventure!

Overall thoughts

The important question to ask is would I sub to this box? Absolutely 1000% yes! I’d like to say that I am absolutely thrilled with the books Rebecca has chosen for me, I couldn’t have done a better job myself! She’s done a cracking job with this box as the books fit me to absolute T. I really loved how each book was carefully wrapped in different paper which to me shows that a lot of thought and effort goes into this box. I’ve only managed to read one out of the three books so far, but that means I have two more amazing books to look forward to reading this month! I don’t always have the time to go out and buy new books so this subscription is a really convenient way to have them sent to your door, and tailored to your reading preferences! This subscription box is probably the only one available at such an amazing value too! I like that there is an option for both pre-loved and new releases, the pre-loved books are in very good condition that you wouldn’t even know they’re preloved! And if you’re not ready to commit to a subscription or looking for a bookish gift for a book lover there are lots of one off gift boxes available!
