Secret Scent Box (His & Hers) Review by Sam & Paul – October 2018

Firstly I would like to say a huge thank you to Anil from Secret Scent Box for sending BoXession these boxes to review.

I was so excited when I found out I would get to review this again! And my postie was glad she didn’t have to knock on my door to deliver it. If you have never heard of Secret Scent, it is a fragrance discovery box, they send you 30 days worth of perfume in 3 different scents each month. This should give you plenty of time to see what wears well on you and of course get all those compliments about how gorgeous you smell. It’s a brilliant concept and has opened up my one fragrance world dramatically!
So I could not wait to find a new scent or a new Christmas present idea, if you missed us trying them out you can catch it here:

It arrived via royal mail in a white letter friendly box inside that were some sleek black boxes embossed with the secret scent logo. Upon opening the lid the 3 fragrances were packaged carefully in a black velvet bedding with the fragrance cards neatly on top, the whole thing screamed luxury.

There was also a card detailing how to win a free box and the month inlay in each box.

The For Her October Edition

So inside my box were the 3 new scents I had to try, each 3ml vial should last 10 days based on 4 squirts a day.

Burberry – London

Burberry London eau de parfum spray for women is a light and floral scent, this fragrance is indispensable while visting the city of London if one wants to feel the pulse of this old contemporary city. A 100ml bottle of this currently retails for £64 and can be found on offer for £36.95.

Top Notes: rose, honeysuckle and tangerine.

Middle Notes: Tiare Flower, Jasmine and Soft Peony.

Base Notes: wood and musk.

This was my second favorite and had a light vibrant everyday feel to it. It wore well throughout the day, lasting well into the evening. It died down into an earthly musk scent within an hour.

Jimmy Choo – Fever

Launched in 2018 Jimmy Choo Fever, an addictive fragrance celebrating a new facet of the Jimmy Choo woman, an innate extrovert with a playful energy and sense of fun. A 100ml bottle of this currently retails for £79 and can be found on offer from £60.

Top Notes: Black Plum Nectar, Lychee and Grapefruit.

Middle Notes: Heliotrope, Vanilla Orchid and Jasmine.

Base Notes: Tonka Bean, Benzoin and Sandalwood.

This was my absolute favorite of the 3, its gorgeous dark fruity scent captivates you in a sophisticated and seductive way and is truly hypnotic! the scent lasted all day and night and was still present the next morning each time I caught a whiff it had a new inciting twist to it. Needless to say this has gone straight on my Christmas list.

FCUK – Connect Her

A great, on-trend fragrance for young women, FCUK Connect Her Eau de Toilette is a floral perfume which is perfect for everyday wear. A 100ml bottle of this retails for £33 and is currently on offer for as low as £12.85.

Top Notes:Lotus, Bergamot and Lily-of-the-Valley.

Middle Notes: of Jasmine, Violet and Peony.

Base Notes: Musk, Sandalwood, Virginia Cedar and Amber.

I found this scent very sweet and feminine, I have loved some other fragrances from this brand but wasn’t overly keen on this one. The price point being in the lower bracket though and the light everyday wear feel to it would make it perfect for a teenagers everyday wear, my 11 year old however loves it so I have found a perfect stocking filler for her!

The For Him October Edition

So inside his box were the 3 new scents he had to try, each 3ml vial should last 10 days based on 4 squirts a day.

Hugo Boss – Hugo Iced

Discover a blast of ice cold freshness with HUGO ICED, a fragrance designed for the modern urban man, set to inspire him to embrace the fresh potential of every day. Comprising a unique blend of exhilarating ingredients that empower the wearer to take on the challenges of a daring and expansive world, creating unlimited opportunities for inspirational and life-changing experiences. A 125ml bottle of this retails for £57 and is currently on offer for £29.95.

Top Notes: Iced Mint.

Middle Notes: Wild Tea and Juniper.

Base Notes: Vetiver.

This was Paul’s favourite it works well with his pheromones to deliver a fresh citrus blast, that helped to invigorate his mood. It wore well through the day and lasted into the night.

Calvin Klein – Obsession Night

A modern approach to Calvin Klein’s addictive classic, Obsession Night for Men is a sexy blend of the finest black Tuscan suede dusted with hints of nutmeg, rich woods, vetiver, and patchouli, resulting in a truly sexy, modern scent. A 125ml bottle of this retails for £41 and is currently on offer for as low as £19.95.

Top Notes: Artemisia, Pear, Grapefruit and Cardamom.

Middle Notes: Nutmeg and Musk

Base Notes: Patchouli, Vanilla, Vetiver.

This one Paul found a bit deeper, the musk shone through creating a sensuous fruity dark delight. This one needed reapplying about 6 hours into the day. It would make the perfect every day scent.

Armani – Acqua Di Gio Absolu

Warm & sensual fragrance inspired by where the sea meets wood. Introducing ACQUA DI GIÒ ABSOLU fragrance for men, celebrating the union between fresh water and warm wood. Seen through the eyes of Giorgio Armani, the alliance of water and wood takes us on a journey into timeless masculinity, embracing a deeper overall consciousness. A 125ml bottle of this retails for £88 and is currently on offer from £70.

Top Notes: Bergamot and Sea Notes.

Middle Notes: Patchouli and Rosemary.

Base Notes: Woods, Amber and Labdanum Resinoid.

This one was a little to woody for our liking, but would better suit a more mature man. The fragrance however lasted extremely well and in that department was the better out of the 3.

Our Conclusion

As I said previously, I love the concept of Secret Scent Box. I really was stuck in my ways with my Chanel NO5 and since I first received this box I now have 9 fragrances I love, not including the latest edition to my Christmas list thank to this box, So it really has opened a new world for me.
You get a 30 day supply based on 4 sprays a day, so a great way to try it without investing loads of cash. I love the cute packaging they use. The boxes remind me of jewellery boxes with the velvet inlay and silver embossing. The fact that they are spray bottles is a huge advantage to me because I hate the little pull top vials you get in samples, and this box works! I have purchased fragrances I have tried in this box without the worry I’m throwing my money away on something I’m not sure on.
This would make a perfect gift for the young and old, male or female! Even couples as you can get his and hers boxes like we have, it’s so much fun trying the different scents out together and finding out what works with your chemistry. I’ve actually bought the man shape 2 of the fragrances that came in our last Secret Scent review for last Christmas! It would also make an  amazing stocking filler and the vials are so handy for traveling with.
