FaceMask Guru Review by Nazia – August 2018

What is FaceMask Guru?

FaceMask Guru is founded by a passionate team of face mask fans and dedicated to all aspects of skin care masking. They love using masks as part of their skin care routine and have found the sheer volume and choice of masks from Asia to be somewhat overwhelming in both quantity and quality. FaceMask Guru felt that they should share their experience and offer an easy way for face mask fans around the world to experience the latest Asian masks with a convenient subscription service. They offer a unique quality service and FREE worldwide shipping at an affordable monthly price with several subscription options. They are based in the beautiful city of Hong Kong and have the luxury of traveling frequently to Korea, Taiwan and Japan so can spend time researching and trying out the latest masks, so they can provide the best masks every month.

I think it’s safe to say that all of us ladies here at BoXession are huge mask addicts as well as many of our members and this is one of the reasons I pursued FaceMask Guru for a collaboration. So, when they agreed I was over to moon to be receiving my very own mask ‘box’ to review, so I’d like to say a big thank you to Ling for sending these to me!

If you missed my live unboxing, you can catch it here on our YouTube channel:

1. Itibiti – Yogurt Mask RRP £2.50

This mask contains yogurt and fermented lactic acid bacteria to restore the skin’s optimal pH, which improves skin elasticity, skin texture and moisture-holding capacity. Enriched with ceramide to prevent moisture from evaporating by strengthening the skin’s moisture barrier and to reduce wrinkles caused by skin dryness; green tea extract to soothe rough and tired skin. After using my skin felt and looked visibly fresh and hydrated. My complexion looked brighter and there was a definite glow to my skin. The packaging is really cute and is based on the popular probiotic drink Yakult.

2. Papa Recipe – Bombee Rose Gold Honey Mask Pack RRP £3.75

This honey mask is enriched with the goodness of propolis and 24k gold that helps increase moisture in skin while nourishing it at the same time. Well-fitting mask adheres to facial contours for maximum absorption of preservative-free essence. This mask was a firm favourite of mine as I saw a noticeable difference! It has a gorgeously sweet honey smell and is decorated with little gold pattern on the sheet. This mask left my skin feeling plumper and extremely nourished and was really gentle on my skin.

3. SNP – Jelly Vita Brightening Toning Mask RRP £2.70

A jelly type mask loaded with a cocktail of essential vitamin C to revitalize dull and fatigued skin and bouncy jelly formula essence that refreshingly absorbing into skin. Acerola extract and kiwi extract nourish the skin and transform dull and pale looking skin into clear and gorgeous skin by working together with skin whitening niacin amide. This is my first time using a jelly mask and was certainly an odd experience. The sheet mask isn’t actually made of jelly but the essence in the pack surrounding it is jelly. On applying it was a little bit messy as the jelly did slide about but was manageable. The jelly was very cooling on the surface of my skin and did make it look slighter brighter.

4. BRTC – Prestige Gold Caviar Cocoon Mask RRP £4.00

This energy recharging and skin lifting mask helps enhance skin elasticity and leaving skin vitalized and healthy with long lasting effect. Wow! This mask is definitely a treat for both the face and neck! The neck is the area that is really neglected when it comes to skincare. This mask is specially designed to include the neck as it has an extra segment that folds out to cover it! Unlike your usual masks this mask has a thicker texture than normal but feels very soft and luxurious. I didn’t want to take it off as it was so relaxing to wear! The skin on both my face and neck felt extremely pampered after using and really revitalised and hydrated.

5. Timeless Truth – Rejuvenating Bio Cellulose Eye Mask £3.70

The rejuvenating Bio Cellulose eye mask helps reduce fine lines and crow’s feet. Its special formulation of active ingredients aids the reduction of wrinkles and puffiness around the eye area. Its gentle action with Bio Cellulose cloth minimises the potential of skin irritation leaving the skin moisturised and with increased elasticity. This eye mask is probably one of the best ones I’ve ever tried. It gives brilliant hydration and the skin feels instantly firmer. The under-eye area also feels hydrated, tighter and puffiness is also noticeably reduced. Very impressed and pleased with the effects!

6. Mediheal – D:NA Aquaring Mask RRP £3.98

Barriers damaged skin and improves its function to keep the skin moisturised, whitened and wrinkle care effect. The essence on the mask is thick and milky and much more hydrating than the clear serum ones. The mask smells amazing and feels really refreshing on my skin and sticks really well to the skin without the essence dripping everywhere. I used this mask before applying makeup and I felt like my makeup applied a lot more evenly than usual!

7. Timeless Truth – Black Luxurious Gold Hydrating Black Charcoal Mask RRP £2.65

The mask is formulated with organic Algae Extract and Vitamin E for enhancing the skin metabolism and boosting highly concentrated hydration of the basal later to regenerate healthy cells.  it also contains charcoal which has unique absorption properties which draw out dirt and oil, eliminate blemishes, promote healing and retain moisture. If you are looking for a truly hydrating and moisturising mask, this might be just what you are looking for. This mask is black in colour and a rather thick fabric soaked in essence. I absolutely love products with charcoal as it draws out impurities. I feel that this helped to clear and tighten my pores after using. I also felt this was very gentle on the skin and helped to make it look more radiant. The packaging is very stylish and modern looking too.

8. Etude House Collagen Eye Mask RRP £2.33

Formulated with collagen to revitalize and improve appearance around eyes. Hydrates and intensifies elasticity of skin around eyes like baby soft skin. Also brightens darkened eyes with essence containing collagen and vitamin. A lovely little treat for under the eyes and the packaging is really cute. The good thing about these eye patches is that they stay in place and don’t slide about like some eye patches do. After removing, my under-eye area looks brighter and the skin feels super soft and refreshed.

9. Surprise gift – Mermaid Makeup brush

A lovely surprise gift from the FaceMask Guru is added to each subscription package and I was very lucky indeed to receive this gorgeous synthetic mermaid blending brush! It is so very pretty to look at and the bristles feel really soft. When using it blended my makeup very evenly and there was very little shedding which some synthetic brushes do. Very impressed with this pretty little freebie!

Final thoughts:

Sheet masks originated in South Korea, known for their dedication to cosmetics and skin care. Today, sheet masks are widely popular in Asia as a whole and are recently changing the beauty industry and gaining popularity. Most masks sold here in the UK are predominantly Korean, but FaceMask Guru are changing the scene by sending you masks to try from all over Asia! The products are all really high quality and come packaged in a beautiful reusable Japanese bag, which for me is much better than receiving a standard box. The free gift was also a really nice surprise and it’s things like this that really show how much their customers and the importance of skincare really means to the FaceMask Guru team! I am seriously blown away by the selection of masks they have sent. I have a very big collection of face masks, so it was great to try masks I have never used before! They also have an online store, so if you aren’t ready to commit just yet but want to try some of the masks I received, you can visit their site to purchase them individually. Experience premium Asian sheet masks and discover your new favourite now!
