What was in the box?

#12 Oh So Criminal Edition

  • Villains Are My Bag

An exclusive product for Illumicrate, this pretty canvas bag has some amazing print work by KDP letters. The material of the bag feels strong and durable and was capable of holding my laptop and a few books when out and about. Really easy to fold and store away too.

  • Perfect Heist Candle

Beautifully designed and smells absolutely gorgeous. The scent is lime, sweet melon, water lily and musk which has a delicate and fresh smell with sweet undertones. The glitter added to the wax really makes this candle pop. It comes encased in a tin and burns for ages.

  • Gotham Sirens Print

I am a huge DC fan and I especially love Batman in particular. So, to find this gorgeous print by Jamila Mehio who is an illustrator and letterer from Beirut, Lebanon pleasantly surprised me. She draws inspiration from her love of books into creating unique narrative illustrations. Depicting three of the most infamous female villains Cat woman, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn in bright bold colours. I have a few different pieces of Batman memorabilia around the house, so I know just the perfect place for this!

  • No Mourners No Funeral Lanyard

I love the silky soft feel of this lanyard and it works great too. The lanyard is very clean, sleek, and seems to hold just about anything you would need on the lanyard in the first place. “No Mourners No Funerals” is the motto of the Dregs. “To them, it equated to good luck” and the design is based on the description of Kaz Brekker’s tattoo in Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo.

  • Antagonist/Protagonist Necklace

Although cute and quirky this necklace is not something I would wear on an every day basis. However, it would make a great addition to a Harley Quinn costume as I feel it really goes with her character because she is the ultimate anti-hero! Good or bad – you decide!

  • Sirius Snacks Coaster

Another villain to add to this oh so criminal edition. This made the Harry Potter fan in me smile as this coaster is very fun and colourful and perfect to place my hot beverage on whilst reading my book. The coaster has a glossy surface and a hardboard MDF base which feels like good quality. Not only is it useful but also decorative, a must for any Harry Potter fan! For those of you who don’t know who the characters are Sirius Black and a Hippogriff are sharing snacks. In the book they both escaped together so this is a great tribute to them both.

  • Easiest Lies Mirror

‘The easiest lies to tell are the ones we want to be true’ a quote from Holly Black’s book White Cat. Style, groom and maintain on the go with this round compact mirror which is perfectly sized to pop into your handbag.

  • Darkdawn Nail File

Tying in with the theme of this box this nail file is engraved with a cat and with the words ‘Fear is not your fate’. I like to look after my nails and this file is really effective at shaping and smoothing nails. Comes in a little plastic case to keep it clean.

  • Catwoman: Soulstealer

Being a massive DC fan, this book was definitely my cup of tea but never having read anything by this author before I have no idea what to expect. I loved this book from start to finish and I couldn’t put it down. I loved the heists, the characters, the action, the anticipation and the writing. For those of you who haven’t read the book I won’t ruin your experience and give any spoilers away! I really felt like I could feel how much Selina loved her sister, and how Emily was her driving force for everything she did! I really enjoyed how the author gives us flashbacks into Selina’s life as an assassin in training, under some of the most notorious leaders. I felt like the writing was so visual as I could picture Selina’s every action and was on the edge of my seat throughout! I haven’t read any other books in this series but after reading this one I think I will definitely be buying the rest of the series to complete the collection! Well worth a read for you Batman/Catwoman fans out there!

  • Extras – Girls of Paper & Fire postcard, Tempests & Slaughter postcard and Sisters of the Winter Wood, Harper 360

I love the extras that have been added into this box, with the beautiful artwork of both the Girls of Paper & Fire and Tempest and Slaughter postcard, great for framing and displaying or adding to a postcard collection.

Sisters of Winter wood is captivating and boldly imaginative, with a tale of sisterhood at its heart, Rena Rossner’s debut fantasy invites you to enter a world filled with magic, folklore, and the dangers of the woods.

The bookmark that is an extension of the book with the words ‘when the bats away the cat will play’ is another great addition to this package and exactly what I needed whilst reading this book.

Verdict.

This is by far one of the most exciting boxes I have had the pleasure of reviewing. I really feel like this box has been especially created just for me as it contains not just your standard book but the whole ‘O so criminal’ theme is just so very me! The box is really well put together as all the products tie in with the villain theme which is definitely ‘my bag’. Most of the items are exclusive products just for Illumicrate which makes them even more special as they cannot be bought anywhere else. Although the book is aimed at young adults that didn’t stop the fan girl in me enjoying it and admiring everything that was in this box. One of the best things about this subscription is that the books are all new releases so the likelihood of you receiving a book you’ve already read is extremely low. So, whether a gift for an avid reader, or to simply satisfy the bookworm in yourself, this book subscription box promise to excite. The brain is a muscle which needs to be exercised to keep it strong and healthy, reading regularly improves memory function by giving your brain a good work out.
